Krystyna Ossowska-Cypryk, a veteran of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising and a specialist in air microbiology, has died at the age of 100 in Warsaw.

Krystyna Ossowska-Cypryk served in the “Radwan” (Śródmieście) district of the Warsaw Home Army during the Warsaw Uprising.
She initially worked as a medical orderly at a hospital on Three Crosses Square, at the Institute for the Deaf and Mute, and later as a liaison.
Post-Bombardment Duties
From August 16th to September 10th, 1944, Ossowska-Cypryk worked in a canteen on Górskiego Street, providing food for insurgents and civilians after the bombing of the Prudential and PKO Bank buildings on Jasna Street.
She was then stationed at Złota Street 8 from September 11th to October 2nd.
Academic Career in Microbiology
Krystyna Ossowska-Cypryk was a specialist in the field of air microbiology.
She earned a master’s degree in Biology and Earth Sciences from the University of Warsaw in 1951, and completed doctoral studies at the Warsaw University of Technology’s Faculty of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering between 1962 and 1966.
She defended her doctoral dissertation in air microbiology with distinction in 1970.
Later Employment
In 1967, Ossowska-Cypryk began her scientific and didactic work at the Institute of Environmental Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology as a senior scientific and technical assistant.
She became a research assistant in 1973 and continued to work part-time as a senior specialist at the Sanitary Biology Department of the Warsaw University of Technology after retiring in 1990.
