Warsaw West Station: Footbridge Closure for Renovation Until 2026

Passengers at Warsaw West Station will face disruptions starting April 9th as the footbridge over the tracks closes for surface replacement until May 7, 2026.

Footbridge Closure and Alternative Route

Starting Thursday, April 9th, passengers using Warsaw West Station will be unable to access platforms via the footbridge over the tracks. PKP Polish Railways (PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe) is commencing surface replacement work on the structure, with disruptions expected to last until May 7, 2026.

The work encompasses not only the footbridge itself but also the stairs and the northern ramp, with the new surface to be made of resin. Railway officials state this phase could not be completed during winter, coinciding with the main station reconstruction phase.

Underground Passage as Alternative

During the renovation, access to platforms will be exclusively through the underground passage. Entrances to the tunnel are located from Aleje Jerozolimskie and Tunelowa Street.

Tunnel Features and Accessibility

The underground passage connects the station with Ochota and Wola districts. It is equipped with elevators and escalators, ensuring accessibility for people with reduced mobility and passengers with luggage. The tunnel is approximately 500 meters long and houses service points, ticket offices, restrooms, and waiting areas beneath the 20 tracks.

Part of Larger Station Modernization

The footbridge work is part of the completed modernization of Warsaw West Station. According to PKP PLK, the investment was one of the largest of its kind in the country, valued at approximately 2.5 billion PLN net.

The modernized station now features nine platforms, full roofing, and photovoltaic panels covering about one-third of the facility’s electricity needs.

Continued Disruption for Travelers

This represents another change in pedestrian traffic organization at one of the capital’s most important stations. For nearly a month, the tunnel under the station will be the sole route to the platforms.
