Warsaw’s Środkowa Street Undergoes Major Green Renovation

Renovation of Warsaw’s Środkowa Street begins February 25, transforming it into a green, pedestrian-friendly public space with new infrastructure.

New Vision for Środkowa Street

Modernization of Środkowa Street in Warsaw’s Praga-Północ district will create a full-green, attractive public space. The renovation includes trees, shrubs, new benches, stone paving, and priority for pedestrians, while maintaining one-way traffic for vehicles and creating a residential zone.

Bicyclists will have dedicated two-way lanes. The project includes new storm sewers and gas pipelines, designed by architecture studio WXCA Sp. z o.o. and implemented by Stołeczny Zarząd Rozbudowy Miasta as part of the city’s revitalization program.

First Construction Phase

The renovation begins on Wednesday, February 25, with the section from Kowieńska to Strzelecka closed at 7:00 AM. At the intersection of Środkowa and Strzelecka, drivers can only proceed from Stalowa toward 11 Listopada, with no straight crossing on Strzelecka.

Parking spaces will be designated at intersections with Kowieńska and Strzelecka. Pedestrians can cross Środkowa on the odd-numbered side during this phase, which will last until the end of March.

Subsequent Construction Stages

In the next phase, construction will move to the other side of the intersection with Strzelecka. Drivers from Stalowa will only be able to turn right into Strzelecka toward Szwedzka, with Strzelecka ending blindly before the construction site.

Pedestrians will cross Środkowa on the even-numbered side during this stage. Work on the section from Kowieńska to Strzelecka will conclude by the end of April, after which road workers will proceed to the section from Stalowa to Strzelecka. All renovation work on Środkowa is scheduled for completion by autumn.
