Warsaw’s Wesoła Intersection Set for Overhaul Amid Resident Concerns

default

The Warsaw city hall has pledged to include the reconstruction of a key intersection in Wesoła in its investment plans, following appeals from residents and local authorities.

Background and Commitment

The Warsaw city hall has announced plans to include the reconstruction of the Trakt Brzeski and Aleja Marsz. Józefa Piłsudskiego intersection in Wesoła in its investment plans. This decision comes after a meeting at the city hall and an appeal from residents and local government officials in the Warsaw area and Mińsk County.

Planned Improvements

The planned improvements include widening a section of the provincial road 638 (Aleja Piłsudskiego) to two lanes near the intersection, constructing a bay and relocating a bus stop for line 173, modifying the traffic light signalization, and reorganizing the street layout in the Nizinnej Street area.

Current Challenges and Justification

The intersection, which serves as a main entrance to Warsaw from Sulejówek, experiences significant traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours. Measurements from 2022 and 2024 confirmed that the intersection is overloaded, justifying a comprehensive modernization.

Implementation and Timeline

The city is preparing to include the task in its financial and planning documents and to launch design work. However, no specific timeline or budget has been announced yet. Starosta Miński, Remigiusz Górniak, expressed hope that the technical documentation will be treated as an investment task and included in the Warsaw budget for 2026.

Local Advocacy and Concerns

Despite verbal assurances from the city’s deputy mayor, no written confirmation has been received that the task will be included in the Warsaw budget. Local authorities and residents are urging for swift action, emphasizing the importance of the project for thousands of residents in Sulejówek, Wesoła, and surrounding areas.
