Washington Shooter Targeted Trump Administration, Claims Reveal

The shooter at a Washington, D.C. gala targeting the White House Correspondents’ Association stated his intention was to harm members of Donald Trump’s administration.

Shooter’s Motive Revealed

The gunman who opened fire during a gala held by the White House Correspondents’ Association in Washington, D.C., told authorities after his arrest that his target was members of President Donald Trump’s administration, CBS News reported Sunday, citing two sources.

Suspect Identified

The Los Angeles Times identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. He is registered as an independent voter.

Allen holds a degree in mechanical engineering from CalTech and studied computer science at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Hotel Room and Employment

Police determined Allen had rented a room at the Hilton hotel in Washington, D.C., where the gala was taking place.

The Los Angeles Times reported Allen was named “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024 by a tutoring, consulting, and college exam preparation company.

Charges Filed Against Allen

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced that the suspect will face two charges: using a firearm during a crime of violence and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, according to BBC News.

Intent to Cause Harm

Pirro emphasized that while only one Secret Service agent was injured, “based on what we know so far, it is clear that this individual intended to cause as much harm and damage as possible.” She stated he was apprehended only due to security protocols.

Shooting at Trump Dinner

The shooting occurred Saturday evening (local time) shortly after the annual gala began at the Hilton hotel in Washington, D.C. The President was evacuated from the stage, along with the First Lady, Vice President J.D. Vance, and other cabinet members. The event was broadcast live on television.

The room contained cabinet members, politicians, and several hundred journalists. Guests sheltered under tables.

Trump’s Response

Trump posted images on Truth Social of the subdued suspect lying on the floor, as well as surveillance footage showing him passing through security screening with authorities in pursuit. The suspect did not reach the ballroom.
