A major water supply failure flooded a church in Myslowice on Saturday morning.
Flooded Church in Mysłowice
On Saturday morning (February 7), the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Mysłowice announced that the interior of the church was flooded with water. This is the result of a water supply network failure in the building at Starokościelna Street. Firefighters were called to the scene, who cut off the water supply and carried out an operation to pump water out of the church’s interior. It was necessary to cut off the electricity.
In places, the water reached a height of 10 cm. Due to the need to turn off the electricity, the transmission on the YouTube channel has been canceled until further notice. The Morning Holy Mass will take place in the St. Family Chapel.
Firefighters Respond to Flooding
Adrian Panasiuk, a councilor of Mysłowice, also informed about the actions of the fire department. He mentioned that the units that arrived on the scene were: the State Fire Service, OSP Mysłowice Janów, OSP Kosztowy, and OSP Dziećkowice. He explained that there was a water leak from the fire protection/water supply system.
Cleanup Efforts Underway
Parish workers appealed to the faithful for help in cleaning the church. Organist Kamil Capała said in a recording posted on Facebook: “every pair of hands to help is welcome.” He added, “The church is always open, we are working tirelessly from the early morning hours, we count on your help, we sincerely invite you and thank you in advance.”
After 14:00 it was announced that all Holy Masses would be held in the church. “Entrance to the church will be through two doors in the transept. The doors at the back of the church, where we normally enter, will be closed due to the disuse of the rear part of the temple. We thank everyone who is helping to tidy up the church from the very morning. We also thank everyone for their spiritual and material support,” the parish stated.
