Poland’s State Water Inspectorate revealed Escherichia coli in Puck County’s municipal supply on Nov. 19, prompting a Government Security Center alert and bottled‑water distribution.
RCB Alert Over Puck County Water Contamination
On Nov. 20, the Governmental Security Center (RCB) issued an alert after the State Water Inspectorate confirmed that the municipal water supply in the villages of Mosty, Mechelinki, Kosakowo and Złote Piaski contains Escherichia coli and related bacteria, making it unsafe for consumption.
State Inspectorate Findings and Local Sources
The State Water Inspectorate announced on Wed., Nov. 19 that samples from the Puck water network showed presence of E. coli and the coli group. PEKO, the local municipal services company, reported on Fri., Nov. 28 that water quality does not meet standards and is undergoing disinfection and flushing procedures.
PEKO noted that other parts of the Kosakowo municipality—Suchy Dwór, Dębogórze, Pierwoszyno, Rewa, and the sections of Kosakowo, Mosty and Mechelinki not covered by the Puck inspection decision—still have potable water because they use alternative sources.
Expected Delay and Provision of Alternative Water
Additional water testing is planned for Monday and Tuesday of the following week, with the earliest possible decision to allow water consumption (even conditionally) scheduled for Dec. 5, 2025, according to PEKO.
Until then, residents receive bottled water and tank water from the supply company.
