“We were prepared for the worst,” says father of 17-year-old Dominik pulled under train

17-year-old Dominik Hołuj remains in critical condition after being pulled under a train while helping a passenger at a Mazovian railway station.

Accident Details

17-year-old Dominik Hołuj was seriously injured at Wola Bierwiecka station on February 14, according to reports, while helping a passenger disembark from a train. The incident occurred around 11:40 during a stop of a Mazowieckie Railway train on the route Radom Główny – Warsaw Gdańska. When Dominik tried to return to the carriage, the doors closed and caught his hand, and the train started moving, pulling him under.

Medical Condition

Dominik’s condition remains critical and has not improved despite the passage of time. He suffered extensive injuries including amputations: losing part of his right hand, part of his right foot, and his entire left leg. He also developed systemic infection. His father, Dariusz, reported that doctors told the family to prepare for the worst, as everything could end in death, though a spark of hope remains.

Treatment and Recovery

After the accident, Dominik was first taken to the Mazovian Specialist Hospital in Radom, where life-saving operations were performed. He was then transported to the Military Medical Institute at Szaserów Street in Warsaw, a center dealing with the most severe cases of injuries. Doctors are trying various antibiotics to treat the infection.

Investigation

The police are conducting proceedings in the case, while simultaneously an explanatory proceeding is underway within the carrier’s procedures. Both services and the carrier have reported that the train driver was sober, as confirmed by tests.

Personal Background

Dominik comes from Mazovia’s Stromiec commune and has been interested in railways since childhood. He planned to pursue a career in the railway industry in the future.
