Weather Rollercoaster in Poland: When Will True Winter Arrive?

Polish temperatures swing from a brief warm spell in early December to a cold snap by year‑end, with forecasters predicting a significant drop between the 22nd and 28th.

Weather forecast: Warmth approaches, then winter returns

The TVN24 says temperatures will rise on Monday, Dec. 8, reaching a high of 15–16 °C in the southwest on Wednesday. Afterward, the east will drop to 2 °C and the west to 10 °C. This pattern is expected to continue until Dec. 19, when cooler air flows in from the east.

Just before Christmas, eastern regions may see about 0 °C while the west will record 5–6 °C.

IMGW weather: Average temperatures across Poland

Long‑term maps from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management show the warmest week from Dec. 8–14, with an average maximum of 7–8 °C across most of the country. The Tatra mountains will average 5 °C, and northern Podlaskie will see 6 °C.

The following week, Dec. 15–21, the median drops to 6–7 °C, except in Lower Silesian district (8 °C) and northern Podlaskie (4 °C).

First major drop, Dec. 22–28

IMGW expects averages of 3–5 °C during this period. The east will cool to 1–2 °C; further cooling may occur at year‑end, with eastern temperatures falling to 0 °C. Meanwhile, Pomeranian and West Pomeranian regions will be relatively warmer at about 3 °C.
