West Bypass of Szczecin Construction Begins; First Contract Signed Friday

The Polish government has signed a 776 million zloty contract to begin construction of the West Bypass of Szczecin, a nearly 50-kilometer project to ease congestion.

Project Overview

The West Bypass of Szczecin will circumvent the city from the west and north in a wide arc, relieving congested sections of A6 and S3 highways located east of the city.

The project will make transportation to Police and its chemical plants significantly easier.

When completed, the bypass will have a total length of almost 50 kilometers.

First Contract Signed

On Friday, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways signed a contract with Porr for the construction of a 13-kilometer section from Kołbaskowa to Dołuje.

This first segment is valued at 776 million zloty.

Tenders for Remaining Sections

For the other two sections, NDI was chosen for the nearly 12 km section from Dołuje to Police.

For the 23 km section from Police to Goleniów with a tunnel, a consortium of Polish company NDI and Turkish company Dogus Insaat Ve Ticaret was selected.

These contracts have not been finalized yet due to protests filed by Porr to the National Appeals Chamber.

Construction Timeline

All three contracts are to be concluded in the “Design and Build” formula.

The first two sections from Kołbaskowa to Police are scheduled for completion in 2029.

The most challenging section featuring the five-kilometer tunnel is planned to be completed in 2033.
