Construction of the western section of Warsaw’s M2 metro line is progressing on schedule, with tunnel work complete and track installation and station equipment installation currently underway.
Construction Progress
Work on the western section of Warsaw’s M2 metro line is ongoing in the Bemowo district. The contractor is laying tracks, installing control systems, and equipping three new stations: C3 Lazurowa, C2 Chrzanów, and C1 Karolin, along with the Mory Technical and Parking Station.
Tunnel and Station Work
The contractor is conducting parallel underground and above-ground tasks. Tracks and switches are being laid in the tunnels, and power, ventilation, communication, and fire safety systems are being installed. Station construction and finishing work are underway on platforms and in technical areas, with elevator shafts and staircases being built.
Project Timeline and Funding
The project is expected to be completed in 2026, with individual sections being successively closed and tested. The project is funded in part by the European Union, with 1.1 billion PLN in funding from the European Infrastructure, Climate, and Environment Fund.
Impact and Future Plans
The new metro line will improve transportation for residents of Warsaw’s western districts and surrounding municipalities. Once completed, the line will feature 21 stations, with the city’s public transportation system currently serving 2.7 million residents and expected to grow to 3.3 million.
