What Will Change in Hungary’s Foreign Policy If TISZA Wins Elections?

Hungarians face a critical election between right-wing parties as Fidesz acknowledges TISZA’s lead in polls.

Péter Magyar’s Political Breakaway

Péter Magyar is a politician who remained a beneficiary of the Fidesz-created system until February 2024. Personal matters—his divorce from Justice Minister Judit Varga, loss of trust within the party, and the resulting inability to pursue his political aspirations—led him to decide to pursue an independent political path. Hungarians will therefore be choosing mainly between right-wing and right-wing options.

Undecided Voters and Internal Fidesz Concerns

The election outcome will depend on undecided voters, who constitute approximately 30% of eligible voters. Although pollsters sympathetic to Fidesz continually reassure the ruling party that victory is certain, according to findings from the opposition portal 444.hu, Fidesz is aware that TISZA actually leads in polls. The journalist also determined that Viktor Orbán is aware that the party has a significant problem with voter mobilization.

Internal Poll Shows TISZA’s Lead

Investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi gained access to an internal Fidesz poll, which shows TISZA leading the ruling party by 10 percentage points (41% to 31%). Internal party morale is also poor. Unlike the previous three elections where Fidesz could be confident about the electoral result, the situation is different this time.
