Śmiszek on Nawrocki’s Veto Dilemma

Krzysztof Śmiszek in interview with Onet spoke about SAFE program and whether Karol Nawrocki will veto law implementing it. “With this president, all scenarios are possible,” said politician from The Left, noting Nawrocki has “massively vetoes good laws” that sometimes “protect shady interests.”

Nawrocki Caught Between Political Pressures

According to MEP Śmiszek, “Karol Nawrocki has gigantic problem because he is in bind.” He faces significant pressure from right, including PiS and Confederation parties who are “hysterical about SAFE program.” Meanwhile, president must remember constitutional role as commander-in-chief of armed forces.

Government Details SAFE Program Funding Allocation

Last weekend, Chancellery of Prime Minister provided more information about SAFE program. Money will be allocated for systems including SAN anti-drone defense, Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, Krab howitzers, Baobab submunitions, air defense, artillery, rocket launchers, ammunition, early warning systems, military infrastructure, eastern border protection, reconnaissance drones, command systems, specialized equipment, and cybersecurity.

Program SAFE: Key Facts

EU arms program SAFE amounts to 150 billion euros. Poland will receive nearly 44 billion euros in preferential loans. Warsaw plans to implement over 130 projects with SAFE funds and can expect 15% advance payment at turn of March and April. Loan repayment will begin in 10 years and extend until 2070.
