What Will Zbigniew Ziobro Do? Survey Dominated by One Answer

A December 21‑23 poll of 1,000 Poles finds 79.4 % expect former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro to stay in Hungary and seek political asylum.

Survey: What Will Zbigniew Ziobro Do?

The United Surveys office conducted a poll for Virtual Poland from December 21‑23, asking respondents what they thought Zbigniew Ziobro would do in light of his legal situation and residence in Hungary. Ninety‑nine respondents out of 1,000 were surveyed.

Overall, 79.4 % said Ziobro would remain in Hungary and apply for political asylum. Only 3.3 % believed he would return to Poland and face the prosecutor’s office. The remaining 17.3 % said they did not know, could not predict, or had no opinion on the matter.

What Did Voters Choose?

Among supporters of the governing coalition—right‑wing KO, Poland 2050, PSL, and the Left—96 % favoured the asylum scenario. Opposition voters, including PiS and Confederation, also leaned toward this outcome at 82 %. Only 30 % of the rest of voters selected the asylum option, and 70 % of them held no opinion.

Notably, 12 % of opposition voters and 3 % of coalition voters had no view on the situation. Conversely, 1 % of coalition supporters and 6 % of opposition voters thought Ziobro would return to Poland.

Zbigniew Ziobro and the Justice Fund

Ziobro faces potential appearances before the judiciary over allegations that he committed 26 crimes related to the Justice Fund. The National Prosecutor’s Office has issued a suspension order and a compulsory appearance directive, but enforcement has stalled because the investigations have determined that Ziobro is currently in Hungary.

Earlier this week, TVP Info reported that the former minister appeared at the European Parliament in Brussels, suggesting an international dimension to his legal challenges.
