PiS member Jacek Sasin announced the party will reveal its prime minister candidate next spring, excluding himself, President Duda, and current PM Morawiecki from contention.
PiS to Present Premier Candidate in Spring
On Wednesday (February 4), former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets, Jacek Sasin, announced on Radio Zet when PiS will present its candidate for prime minister. He stated: “The realistic timeframe is spring of this year. This will begin a new political season. We want to go on the political offensive. It must be accompanied by a personal offer. We don’t want Poles to buy a pig in a poke.”
According to Sasin, the candidate “should primarily satisfy all those who expect some new opening.” At the same time, Jacek Sasin ruled out that he would be the candidate, also indicating that it would not be Andrzej Duda or Mateusz Morawiecki.
Sasin on Morawiecki: “One of Many Important PiS Politicians”
“A new opening, a new face is needed,” explained Jacek Sasin and added that Andrzej Duda is outside current politics, while he himself is the face of previous PiS governments. When asked about Mateusz Morawiecki, the politician commented: “He is one of the important PiS politicians, one of many. Former Prime Minister Beata Szydło is also a former prime minister, but somehow no one gets so emotional about whether she will be prime minister or not.”
Perhaps Prime Minister Szydło would also like to, but she has so much modesty that she doesn’t communicate it to everyone, Sasin added. He stated that the party leadership is guided by pragmatism, voter expectations, and not by politicians’ desire to be prime minister.
Political Reactions to Sasin’s Statements
The reaction didn’t take long to come. “PS. Jacku, since the kingmaker’s urge is awakening in you again, I have two words: Podlasie provincial assembly,” wrote Mateusz Morawiecki on X.
“Give it a rest. The world doesn’t revolve around the name of the prime minister because we need to win elections. And we don’t want to win elections for ourselves, but to change Poland. Constantly saying: me! me! me! serves no purpose,” replied Tobiasz Bocheński to Morawiecki’s post.
“The media narrative about who, in MP Jacek Sasin’s assessment, can and cannot be prime minister, is some kind of game to strengthen Confederation and Braun, or just personal ambitions?” wrote Waldemar Buda in turn.
Two Teams Working on Program
Jacek Sasin also announced on Radio Zet when PiS will present its program. “We will find out this year, at least in its main assumptions. We are working intensively. This is not an easy task. Poland’s problems today are really immense,” he said.
The politician also emphasized that two teams are working on the program – that of Mateusz Morawiecki and one appointed by Jarosław Kaczyński, in which Jacek Sasin is included.
