Trump advisor David Sacks urges declaration of victory in Iran and withdrawal amid escalating conflict.
Call for Withdrawal
David Sacks, an artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency specialist in the Trump administration, stated that it’s time for the USA to declare victory in Iran and withdraw, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on Saturday. Sacks, in an All-In podcast, emphasized that markets expect this resolution.
The newspaper noted that Sacks’ statement represents a rare voice of dissent within the administration. Sacks admitted that the Strait of Hormuz must be unblocked but warned against calls for escalation, including sending ground troops or changing the regime.
Catastrophic Escalation Warning
Sacks warned that escalating the conflict could lead to widespread destruction of oil and gas infrastructure in the Middle East, as Iranians attack in retaliation. He also cautioned that destroying water desalination plants could make Persian Gulf countries “almost uninhabitable.”
The region relies on over 400 water desalination plants along its coasts, from the UAE to Kuwait, to support one of the world’s most water-scarce areas.
Potential for Regional Destruction
Regarding escalation scenarios, Sacks noted that Iran’s attacks on Israel have already been strong, and if the war continues, “Israel or large parts of it could be destroyed.”
Iranian Threat Against US Companies
Saturday evening, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps demanded the US remove its companies from the Middle East. The IRGC also called on civilians to avoid US-owned companies, according to Reuters citing Iranian state media.
The warning came after an airstrike killed Iranian civilians in non-military factories. Iran International suggests this indicates the IRGC plans to attack US-linked companies imminently.
