Wielki Bu Seeks Release From Pre‑Trial Detention, Demands Isolation Precautions

Polish athlete Patryk M. “Wielki Bu” seeks a 500,000‑zł guarantee in exchange for isolation and travel restrictions while five drug‑trafficking and theft charges loom.

Defense Demands Isolation Measures

Patryk M. “Wielki Bu”’s lawyer has asked that his client be placed under preventive isolation measures, citing a 500,000‑zł surety, a ban on leaving the country, police supervision, and prohibition of contact with witnesses and co‑suspects.

The court currently does not yet know whether the defense’s appeal will be accepted. On 14 November the Lublin‑West District Court gave the prosecutor’s request for temporary detention of Patryk M. “Wielki Bu” weighty consideration.

Five Charges Bring Legal Action

Patryk M. was arrested in September 2023 in Hamburg under a European Arrest Warrant and handed over to Polish authorities on 6 November.

A few days later, prosecutors filed five charges: participation in an organized crime group operating between 2017‑2018 in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland’s other regions, the Netherlands, and Spain; possession of 17 kg, worth about 850,000 zł, of marijuana and 2 kg, valued at 60,000 zł, of amphetamine; and involvement in the theft of an Audi Q7, 60,000 zł, its subsequent VIN tampering, and a fraudulent resale for 41,000 zł.

Patryk M. denies all allegations, refuses to make a statement, and has not pleaded guilty.

Patryk M., now 35, has a history of clashes with the law, including a kidnapping conviction. He gained notoriety during the campaign cycle leading up to Poland’s presidential election.

In early August 2022, he posted an online photo with Karol Nawrocki, then head of the National Memory Institute. Nawrocki confirmed knowing Patryk, recalling that they exchanged blows in a boxing match decades ago, but stressed that they hold no grievance over each other’s off‑ring lives.
