Woman Drives Against the Flow on S7 Expressway

A 76‑year‑old woman was stopped on the S7 expressway near Tarczyn after driving against the traffic flow from Radom toward Warsaw, authorities said.

Incident Overview

The on‑duty officer of the County Police Command in Piaseczno received a report that a woman was driving a Fiat in the wrong direction on the S7 expressway between Radom and Warsaw. Witnesses observed her in the left lane, ignoring honking and flashing lights, and continued on the route until patrols were dispatched. One patrol vehicle headed toward Tarczyn to establish checkpoints.

Driver’s Statement

The driver, a 76‑year‑old woman, was stopped between the Tarczyn junction and the village of Grzędy. She told officers she had left her friend in Radom and did not realize she had entered the Warsaw‑bound lane. She admitted that she eventually noticed she was traveling against the regulations but could not find an exit to correct her course.

Police Response

Police seized the driver’s licence and referred the matter to court. The incident is under judicial review.

Appeal to Senior Drivers

Officers from Piaseczno urged families and friends of senior drivers to assess whether age, health, and psychophysical abilities allow safe driving. They warned that vision, hearing, reflexes, and concentration decline with age and can jeopardise road safety, but clarified that the message is not about stripping independence but protecting lives and public safety.
