On Thursday, December 4, a 58‑year‑old woman fell from a delivery van in Lębork, Poland, after the door opened as she turned a corner, suffering a suspected spinal injury.
Incident Details
The woman was riding as a passenger with her husband in a delivery van. She was not wearing a seatbelt when the van turned a corner, causing the door on her side to open and she fell onto the road.
She landed on her back with a presumed spinal injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police Investigation
Police found the seat‑belt buckle in the van damaged, rendering the belts unusable.
As a result, the driver received a fine of 1,500 PLN, 10 penalty points on his licence, and had his registration documents seized.
Safety Warning
Officials reminded passengers that properly fastened seatbelts can prevent severe injury, especially when a vehicle collides with a stationary object at about 50 km/h.
The warning emphasized that a 75‑kg person can experience a “crash mass” of around 3 tons during a collision, and that seatbelts are essential for safety.
