Woman in Świętochłowice Denies 27‑Year Detention Claims

In Świętochłowice, Poland, 42‑year‑old Mirella has denied reports that she was confined to her parents’ apartment for 27 years, prompting a police investigation and court testimony in Chorzów.

Police Statement: No Abuse, No Refusal of Assistance

On July 29, police intervened at Mirella’s apartment after a domestic‑violence report. Both Mirella and her 81‑year‑old mother stated no altercation had occurred. While Mirella showed swollen legs, authorities called emergency services and transported her to hospital; however, police said there was no indication she was being violently restrained, and no prior interventions had taken place.

Interview Highlights Logical Response

During a mid‑October police interview Mirella explained she simply chose not to leave her home, citing shame and lack of identity documents. She had never worked or attended school past age 15, and she possessed no personal ID. District prosecutor Sabina Kuśmierska noted her remarks were consistent and logically structured, and stated investigators would assess her mental capacity.

Court Testimony Confirms Earlier Statements

On Thursday, at the Chorzów District Court, Mirella gave a recorded single‑session hearing where she reiterated that there had been no abuse or forced confinement. The court, which commonly conducts such hearings for minors, could not provide further details on her case for the victim’s protection. She complained instead about reporters approaching her building and knocking on her apartment door.

Potential Social‑Care Placement and Further Witnesses

Prosecutors plan to interview additional witnesses and seek psychological and medical opinions on Mirella. Authorities are also considering filing a motion with the court for her compulsory placement in a social‑care facility.
