A 38-year-old woman in Wyszków county falsely reported her Audi stolen after her partner abandoned the vehicle while attempting to commit fuel theft in the neighboring Ciechanów district.
The False Report
On the morning of May 16, a 38-year-old resident of Wyszków county reported to local police that her Audi had been stolen from her property overnight. Investigators quickly discovered that the report was a fabrication intended to shield her 40-year-old partner from criminal charges.
Criminal Activity Exposed
Police cross-referenced the report with an attempted fuel theft from trucks in the Ciechanów district reported hours earlier. The perpetrator of the fuel theft had been identified driving the very same Audi that was later reported stolen.
Consequences for the Couple
The suspect had abandoned the car in a rapeseed field after being pursued by a witness. He confessed to driving without a license and attempting to steal fuel; he is now under arrest.
Legal Penalties
Both the man and the woman face charges for filing a false report and providing false testimony, which carries a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison. The 40-year-old will also face additional charges for driving without a license.
