A 65‑year‑old Thai woman, declared dead at a Bangkok hospital, was found alive in a coffin at Nonthaburi’s Wat Rat Prakhong Tham after staff heard a knock.
Incident at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham
A coffin carrying a 65‑year‑old woman was transported to the Buddhist temple Wat Rat Prakhong Tham in Nonthaburi. Staff suddenly heard a knocking sound emerging from the coffin.
Alleged Misdiagnosis of Death
According to temple finance director Pairat Soodthoop, the woman had been bedridden for about two years and had lost consciousness and ceased breathing. She was declared dead at a hospital 500 km away in Bangkok, but no official death certificate had been issued.
Awakening and Hospital Transfer
While the coffin was awaiting a death certificate, the woman awakened, opened her eyes, and was later taken to a hospital for treatment. The temple will cover the medical expenses.
Temple’s Role
After receiving the coffin, the temple informed the brother that cremation could proceed only with a death certificate. The family’s wish to donate organs could not be fulfilled due to the lack of official documentation.
