Political scientist warns of international efforts to isolate the United States amid Trump’s isolationist policies.
International Response to US Isolationism
On TVN24, Professor Bogdan Góralczyk discussed reactions to the United States’ isolationist policies. In this context, he drew attention to the proposal by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who wants to connect the European Union as an integration project with Japan’s controlled Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Two Major Blocs Without US Participation
The political scientist emphasized that there are “two integrative groups larger than the European Union.” One under Japan’s supervision, now called the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and the other is the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership: 15 countries under China’s supervision. In both, there are no Americans. These are tectonic moves, stated Professor Góralczyk.
He added, “this is an attempt initiated by Canada to isolate the United States with its isolationist policy.” In his opinion, if Europe, Canada and Japan manage to agree, the creation of such a partnership will be realistic.
Tensions Over Greenland Hospital Ship
Meanwhile, Donald Trump announced the dispatch of a hospital ship to Greenland. He emphasized that the unit is to help “care for the sick on the island” who do not receive care. Greenland and Denmark have jointly rejected this proposal. The authorities in Nuuk and Copenhagen emphasize that island residents have free access to healthcare, and the American offer is unnecessary and provocative.
“No, thank you. We have a public healthcare system with free healthcare” stressed Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen. The matter causes further tensions around strategic Greenland, which has key military and political significance in the Arctic. Let us remind you that the president wants to take over the island.
