Woś Declares Victory; Prosecutors Dismiss Court Decision as Routine Procedure

The Warsaw Regional Court has lifted all preventive measures against Law and Justice (PiS) MP Michał Woś, who faces charges over the 2017 transfer of 25 million PLN to the Central Anticorruption Bureau.

The Pegasus Investigation Charges

Two years ago, prosecutors charged former Deputy Justice Minister Michał Woś with exceeding his authority and failing to fulfill his duties regarding a 25 million PLN transfer from the Justice Fund for Pegasus software. The politician rejects the allegations, maintaining the funding was legal and claiming he is a victim of political persecution.

Following an indictment last October, prosecutors imposed preventive measures including police supervision and mandatory bi-weekly reporting. Additionally, authorities placed a compulsory mortgage on Woś’s property and seized his bank accounts and vehicle.

Court Overturns Preventive Measures

On Thursday, May 28, Woś’s legal counsel, Adam Gomoła, announced that the Warsaw Regional Court had overturned all preventive measures and property seizures imposed by the National Prosecutor’s Office. Woś publicly framed the ruling as a significant defeat for the prosecution.

Prosecution Downplays Legal Setback

The National Prosecutor’s Office released a statement characterizing the court’s decision as a routine element of criminal proceedings. They clarified that the ruling considers the current stage of the case and the duration of the measures, without undermining the original justification for their implementation.

The prosecution emphasized that judicial bodies are obligated to constantly re-evaluate the necessity of preventive measures. They noted that such reviews are standard procedural steps that should not be interpreted as extraordinary events.
