The city of Wrocław has announced it will file a complaint with prosecutors over a graphic that allegedly promotes fascism and hate before the planned Polish March on November 11.
City Files Complaint
The Security and Crisis Management Department of the Wrocław City Office said on Tuesday, November 4, that it would lodge a complaint regarding the possibility of a crime. The department cited the public promotion of a fascist state and incitement to hatred targeting national, ethnic, racial, and religious groups. The graphic in question was to be published on the portal wPrawo.pl.
Graphic Accused of Repurposing Nazi Propaganda
The poster, which appeared on the site, promoted the Polish March in Wrocław. It directly used elements originally found on a World War II era Hitler propaganda poster by Ludwig Hohlwein, a collaborator of Joseph Goebbels. The image also featured, among other elements, the logo of the White Front Poland organization and the slogan “Join us, nationalists.” The graphic was subsequently removed from the portal’s Facebook page.
Organizers Deny Association With the Poster
The march is organized by the foundation “Polak w Polsce Kole.” President Robert Piskorski told Radio Wrocław that the poster had nothing to do with the event. “I think this is a provocation from the side of Gazette Wyborcza, which first reported the matter, to discourage and discredit the event. We have nothing to do with this poster. Our official poster is similar to the one we used last year,” he said.
Portal Editor Declares Non‑Involvement
Jacek Międlar, the editor‑in‑chief of wPrawo.pl where the graphic was scheduled to appear, stated that the site performed its role “exemplary.” He added that he would never publish such a poster himself.
