A fatal head-on collision occurred early Sunday morning on the A1 motorway near Łódź after a driver entered the highway against traffic, resulting in one death and three hospitalizations.
Fatal Collision Near Tuszyn
The accident took place on Sunday at approximately 2:25 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the A1 motorway between the Tuszyn and Łódź Południe junctions. Two passenger vehicles were involved in a head-on crash.
Wrong-Way Driving and Casualties
Preliminary police findings indicate that the driver entered the motorway against the flow of traffic, colliding head-on with an Audi traveling in the correct direction. The driver responsible for the incident died at the scene, while three individuals from the second vehicle were transported to a hospital, according to ASP Aneta Kotynia of the Koluszki District Police.
Ongoing Traffic Disruptions
The A1 motorway remains blocked in the direction of Gdańsk, with local police directing traffic to detours via the Tuszyn junction onto the DK 12 and S8 roads. Authorities are currently working to clear the site and reopen at least one lane for traffic heading toward Gdańsk.
