A yellow fog warning is in force over Warsaw until Monday morning as dense mist blankets the Masovian region, reducing visibility to below 200 m and making roads slippery.
Yellow Fog Warning for Warsaw
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, a state research institute, has issued a first‑degree warning for dense fog in Warsaw. The alert is in force until 9 am Monday, 1 December.
Persistent Low Clouds and Rising Fog
Low clouds and light fog will linger over the capital during the evening and the second half of the night, gradually sharpening into dense mist. Temperatures are expected to hover between 1 °C and 4 °C, while high humidity encourages fog formation and the deposition of silty ash on surfaces.
Monday morning will bring intermittent drizzle and light rain.
Visibility and Road Hazards
Visibility will fall to below 200 m in some spots, and ash may collect on roads and sidewalks. The reduced sight is especially pronounced on unlit stretches, open areas, and near water bodies.
Traffic Impact During Morning Rush
Dense fog can slow traffic during peak hours. Drivers should anticipate slower speeds and longer commute times as visibility remains limited through the early morning.
Practical Advice for Drivers
Use appropriate lighting: activate low‑beam fog lights only when visibility drops below 50 m, and never blast high beams. Switch on high‑beam fog lights when needed.
Keep your foot off the accelerator, increase following distance, and be prepared for uneven braking.
Safety Tips for Pedestrians
After dark, wear reflective clothing or attach reflectors to any gear you carry. Being visible reduces the risk of accidents during low‑visibility conditions.
