Ukrainian President Zelenski marks four years since Russian invasion, highlighting Kyiv’s resistance as proof of Ukrainian determination.
Ukrainian President on Four Years of Resistance
On the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the fact Kyiv was not captured in the first days of the war speaks to Ukrainian society’s determination and strength.
“Today, exactly four years have passed since Putin began a three-day offensive on Kyiv. This says a lot about our resistance, about how Ukraine has fought throughout this time,” Zelensky wrote in a social media post.
Defending Independence
The Ukrainian President noted that despite four years of war, Russia has not achieved its goals. “We have every right to say: we defended our independence, we did not lose our statehood,” Zelensky emphasized. “We saved Ukraine and we will do everything to ensure peace and justice,” he added.
Voices of Support from Poland
Polish politicians also commented on the anniversary. President Karol Nawrocki stated that Russian aggression threatens Europe’s security, warning that “ignoring Russia’s imperial ambitions has always led to tragedy.”
Meanwhile, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Diplomacy Radosław Sikorski is visiting Kyiv, emphasizing this as an expression of Poland’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
Brussels: We Will Not Back Down
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, on her tenth visit to Ukraine since the war began, confirmed Europe’s “resolute” support for Ukraine both financially and militarily.
“Europe will not abandon its support for Ukraine and will seek peace ‘on Ukraine’s terms’,” von der Leyen emphasized.
