Zelensky: Putin Ready for Peace Talks After Ukrainian Pressure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday, May 10, that Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness for “real meetings” regarding peace talks, despite continued fighting in frontline regions.

Readiness for Peace Negotiations

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Sunday, May 10, that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has confirmed his readiness for “real meetings” regarding peace talks. Zelensky noted that Ukraine had long been ready for discussions and that an appropriate format must now be found, adding that they “pushed him a bit” toward this position.

Frontline Combat and Ceasefire Violations

Despite the absence of massive attacks, Zelensky highlighted that fighting has continued in frontline areas. He reported that on May 9 and 10, there were over 150 assault actions, more than 100 shelling incidents, and nearly ten thousand kamikaze drone strikes.

While the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire from May 8 to 10 for Victory Day, Zelensky asserted that the Russian army is not observing the truce. He stated that Ukrainian units are acting in a mirroring fashion to defend their positions as necessary.

Strategic Restraint and Deterrence

Ukraine has recently refrained from long-range attacks on targets within Russia, which Zelensky explained was a result of a lack of Russian attacks. However, he warned that if Russia returns to full-scale warfare, Ukrainian reactions will be immediate and felt, emphasizing the army’s long-range capabilities.

Prisoner Exchange and US Guarantees

Zelensky confirmed that a prisoner exchange is being prepared following contacts with the United States. The “thousand for thousand” exchange involves guarantees provided by the Americans regarding arrangements previously mentioned by U.S. President Donald Trump.
