Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Russia that Ukrainian drones could potentially strike Moscow during the May 9th Victory Day parade.
Russia Announces Scaled-Back Victory Day Parade
Russia announced it will hold a parade on May 9th, but without military equipment—a first since many years, if confirmed. Zelensky stated this suggests Russia’s defenses are weaker than previously believed.
Zelensky: Time for Decisions Approaches
According to Zelensky, Russia will soon have to decide whether to expand its military operation further or pursue diplomatic solutions. He believes a critical point will be reached with the arrival of summer and urged European countries to push Vladimir Putin towards diplomacy, potentially through additional sanctions.
Moscow Parade to Proceed Without Military Hardware
Russia has not officially responded to Zelensky’s latest statement, but state news agency TASS presented it as a threat to send Ukrainian drones to Moscow on May 9th. The Kremlin previously explained the scaled-back Victory Day Parade as a result of the “operational situation” and the threat from Ukraine, citing increased “terrorist activity” from Kyiv.
The Russian Ministry of Defence announced that no military equipment will appear on Red Square this year, marking the first time this has occurred since 2007.
Russian Senator Calls Zelensky’s Suggestion a Mockery
Grigoriy Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, stated to TASS that Zelensky’s suggestion of sending drones to Moscow on Victory Day is a mockery of the memory of those who won the Great Patriotic War.
