Warsaw’s City Roads Board will rebuild the aging bridge over the Żerań Canal on Cieślewskich Street, with a tender deadline of Dec. 29 and a 16‑month construction window, promising upgraded pedestrian and bike paths.
Tender Process and Timeline
Warsaw’s City Roads Board (ZDM) has announced a tender for the reconstruction of the bridge on Cieślewskich Street, with bids accepted until 29 December.
The selected contractor will have a 16‑month period to complete the project after signing the agreement.
Scope of Reconstruction
The aging bridge, first built over 50 years ago and replaced with a steel structure in 1992, will be completely dismantled.
A new bridge will be erected in its place, featuring a modern roadway surface and upgraded facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
Pedestrian and Bicycle Enhancements
During the rebuild, two 3.5‑metre lanes will be added on both sides of the bridge, designated for shared pedestrian‑bicycle traffic.
Barriers will separate these lanes from the main roadway, a safety feature currently absent.
Integration with Białołęka Street Works
The new lanes will link to updated infrastructure along Białołęka Street, managed by the City Development Board.
The Board recently signed a contract for a comprehensive overhaul of the street, coordinating the bridge work.
City Roads Board’s Ongoing Modernisation
ZDM maintains numerous bridges, footbridges and viaducts across Warsaw, many dating back to the PRL era.
In recent years the Board has almost entirely rebuilt the viaduct above Globus Street and the Marywil viaduct, while other municipal units oversee maintenance of remaining structures.
Not all crossings require immediate reconstruction; most are subject to routine maintenance agreements.
