Ziobro Denounces Prosecutor’s Immunity Request as Criminal Conspiracy

Former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro blasted the prosecutor’s request to strip him of parliamentary immunity on October 28, calling the accusations a criminal conspiracy.

Prosecutor’s Immunity Request Filed

On Tuesday, October 28, prosecutors informed the Sejm that they had submitted a request to revoke Zbigniew Ziobro’s parliamentary immunity. The motion is part of a broader investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

Ziobro’s Response on X

Ziobro posted a statement on X, the social‑media platform formerly known as Twitter. He said, “I have fought crime all my life. The fabricated charges against me are the determination of the criminal gang that runs Poland today.” He emphasized that he has always opposed criminal activity.

Defense of His Actions and Public Security Claims

In a video accompanying the post, Ziobro highlighted achievements of his ministry. He claimed that, as Justice Minister, his administration dismantled VAT‑based mafias and redirected hundreds of millions of zlotys back into the state budget, instead of criminal hands. The funds were reportedly used for firefighting units, hospitals, the “Budzik” clinic, and the renovation of prosecutor offices.

Alleged Misappropriations and Ministry’s Counter‑Claims

The prosecution accuses Ziobro of misappropriating state funds. Ziobro rejects these allegations, stating that the money was allocated for legitimate, public‑interest purposes.

Judicial Investigation of 26 Crimes

Prosecutors list 26 crimes against Ziobro, including the creation and leadership of an organized criminal group. The investigation centers on irregularities in the distribution of the Justice Fund. Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek called the prosecution’s action “unprecedented in Europe” and noted that the immunity‑revoke petition spans 150 pages.
