Former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro has relocated to the United States from Hungary, entering on a visa reportedly granted through the personal intervention of President Donald Trump.
Arrival in the United States
Zbigniew Ziobro has left Hungary for the United States, entering on a visa rather than through an asylum decision. TV Republika first reported the move, and Ziobro was reportedly spotted at Newark Airport in New York on Saturday, May 9.
Unofficial reports indicate that Ziobro held a transit ticket and was transferring through Newark Airport.
Trump’s Role in the Visa Process
According to “Wyborcza,” President Donald Trump personally decided to grant the visa to Ziobro and his wife, Patrycja Kotecka. This decision came despite opposition from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the US Ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose.
Marcin Romanowski Remains in Hungary
Former Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski did not receive a visa and remains in Hungary. He is currently subject to a European Arrest Warrant, and reports suggest he is in hiding.
Pressure from the New Hungarian Government
The situation changed following the victory of Peter Magyar and the TISZA party in the Hungarian parliamentary elections. Magyar stated that Ziobro and Romanowski would not remain in the country for long and promised their extradition in accordance with international law and European cooperation principles.
Ziobro’s Defiance Toward Donald Tusk
Ziobro asserted that he remains ready to fight for the truth and will continue his struggle against Prime Minister Donald Tusk regardless of his location. He stated that even if he were imprisoned in Poland, he would still fight against the current government.
