Ziobro Attempts Police Call During TV Broadcast

Former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro tried to call a police number during a Friday program on TVRepublika before 22:00. The connection failed, likely because officers had specified that this particular number is only accessible on weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00. The PiS politician then called the 24-hour number of the duty officer at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters.

“We apologize, the line is currently busy” was the message that came through. “How does this work, Mr. Kierwiński?” Ziobro asked rhetorically. “People all over Poland are calling about Ziobro who is wanted by warrant – how does it work, Mr. Kierwiński, if people call about serious crimes?” he added. For several minutes, “Please wait” messages were also heard.

“I will defend the officers who do hard work, I have great respect for them, which is why I regret that they are being involved in political shenanigans for the umpteenth time,” the PiS MP said. Ultimately, the politician hung up.

Warrant Issued for Former Justice Minister

On Thursday, the District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów issued a decision on the application of temporary arrest for Zbigniew Ziobro. On Friday, the prosecutor’s office decided to search for the politician with an arrest warrant. The Metropolitan Police Headquarters is to conduct the search.

The case concerns an investigation into the spending of money from the Justice Fund. According to investigators, Ziobro, as Minister of Justice, had committed 26 crimes. According to the prosecutor’s office, the PiS politician had led a criminal group. Zbigniew Ziobro disagrees with the charges, calling them “invented.” He obtained asylum in Hungary in December.
