Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek sent a request to lift MP Zbigniew Ziobro’s parliamentary immunity, giving the MP three days to decide before a Sejm vote.
Immunity removal request delivered
On 28 October, Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek sent an email to Marshal Szymon Hołownia requesting the removal of parliamentary immunity from Zbigniew Ziobro. The Sejm Office confirmed that the message reached Ziobro.
Three‑day decision window
Ziobro now has a three‑day period to decide whether to waive immunity voluntarily. After that period, the Sejm can vote on lifting immunity and on temporary arrest.
Committee session and Sejm vote schedule
The parliamentary rules committee convened on Thursday 6 November. Under the rules, the Sejm could decide on the request and temporary arrest by Friday.
Prosecutor allegations and criminal charges
Prosecutors allege that Ziobro has committed 26 offences, including neglect of duty, abuse of authority, and suspected formation of a criminal group. They also accuse him of embezzling or attempting to embezzle funds from the Justice Fund.
Procedural next steps
If Ziobro does not waive immunity, the Sejm will assess the request and potentially authorize temporary arrest pending investigations.
