Polish politician Zbigniew Ziobro received a formal reprimand from parliamentary commission for his repeated absences.
Commission Vote
Nine members of the commission voted to issue the reprimand, six were against. As a result, the proposal of MP Katarzyna Stachowicz (KO) to reprimand Zbigniew Ziobro was adopted.
Defense Arguments
The vote in the commission was preceded by a discussion. In defense of Ziobro stood, among others, former Sejm Marshal Elżbieta Witek (PiS), who pointed out that Ziobro received asylum in Hungary because in Poland he “cannot count on a fair trial”.
Background and Potential Consequences
The request regarding Ziobro’s absences from Sejm sessions was submitted to the regulations commission at the end of January by Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty. The Marshal said at the time that when the commission presents its position to him, Zbigniew Ziobro will have time to appeal this decision.
Subsequently, the Marshal will want to present to the Sejm Board a draft resolution on the loss of parliamentary diet and reduction of parliamentary salary to one-tenth of the amount, i.e., 1350 zł. gross monthly.
