Warsaw court postpones Ziobry detention hearing; prosecutor explains decision and criticizes defense tactics.
Court Decision
The District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów decided to again postpone the hearing on the request for Zbigniew Ziobry’s temporary arrest on January 15. The court justified the delay due to defense motions challenging the presiding judge’s impartiality, which require formal review.
Prosecutor’s Defense Critique
Prosecutor Piotr Woźniak argued the court didn’t have to postpone the hearing but could have issued a ruling. He criticized defense arguments suggesting judicial bias based on the judge’s membership in Iustitia, which previously criticized Ziobry. Woźniak also disputed claims about document access, citing specific legal procedures.
Regarding defense tactics, Woźniak stated, “It seems to me that the defense did not care whether this request [for arrest] was ruled on today.”
February Hearing Outlook
The next hearing is scheduled for February 5. Woźniak expressed optimism that formal obstacles would be resolved, allowing the court to address the arrest request substantively. He noted that asylum granted to Ziobry in Hungary is irrelevant to the arrest and European Arrest Warrant (ENA) proceedings.
