Zondacrypto Faces Collapse: Withdrawals Blocked, Layoffs Surge

Polish cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto is struggling with blocked withdrawals exceeding 500 million złoty, mass layoffs, and growing financial uncertainty.

Zondacrypto on the Brink

Since early April, users of the Zondacrypto platform have experienced difficulties withdrawing funds. Estimates suggest the scale of outstanding payments may exceed 500 million złoty. Simultaneously, mass layoffs and organizational disarray are deepening concerns about the company’s future.

Withdrawal Block Not Temporary

Sources connected to the company, as reported by Wirtualna Polska, indicate the withdrawal block is not temporary. Contrary to earlier management assurances of technical issues, IT department employees reportedly did not confirm the existence of such errors, believing the company’s financial situation is far more serious.

Questionable Bitcoin Holdings

Efforts to reassure stakeholders included information about a purported portfolio containing 4500 bitcoins. However, internal sources report no evidence that these funds actually belong to the exchange or can be used to cover client obligations, undermining previous management statements.

Layoffs and Organizational Paralysis

Alongside financial problems, rapid personnel changes have occurred. Managers have been instructed to terminate contracts with both employees and B2B contractors, with some individuals receiving immediate termination notices.

Access Restrictions and Operational Halt

Access to internal tools and company operating systems has been blocked, effectively halting work in many departments, including customer service and payment processing. Employees emphasize they cannot perform basic duties without access to the infrastructure.

Unpaid Wages and Equipment Disputes

Reports indicate wage arrears, with some employees not receiving March salaries and, in some cases, facing delays of several months. This is escalating conflict between the company and its staff, who are increasingly refusing to return company equipment until their dues are settled.

Missing CEO and Lack of Communication

Przemysław Kral, the company’s CEO, has become unreachable to employees. While briefly appearing active on company messaging platforms, he has not responded to messages or contact attempts.

Communication and Skepticism

In a message to employees, Kral attributed the system access restrictions to the need to protect data and respond to alleged attacks on the company’s infrastructure. He assured them that efforts were underway to settle debts to employees, but these declarations are met with growing skepticism.

Dual Citizenship Concerns

Further controversy surrounds reports, according to unofficial sources, that the CEO holds dual citizenship. While not conclusive, this information reinforces the atmosphere of uncertainty regarding his current location and accountability.

Legal Issues and Prosecution Analysis

The Zondacrypto case is attracting the attention of law enforcement. The prosecutor’s office is analyzing the growing number of reports from affected clients and the scale of potential financial losses. Similar cases in the past have led to investigations into financial fraud, breaches of information obligations, and mismanagement.

Tax Arrears at Related Company

Information has emerged regarding tax arrears at BB Trade Estonia OÜ, a company associated with the exchange’s operations. While the amount exceeding one thousand euros is not significant in the overall business context, it represents another signal of operational and financial problems.

Regulatory Gaps and MiCA Regulations

Financial market experts point out that a lack of transparency and limited oversight of cryptocurrency exchanges in many jurisdictions contribute to such situations. The European Union is implementing new MiCA regulations aimed at increasing user security and enforcing greater transparency in the industry.
