Żurek Exposes Motives Behind Nawrocki’s Decision: The ‘King Sun’ Scheme

During a Thursday press conference, Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek criticized President Karol Nawrocki’s refusal to nominate 46 judges, citing alleged “King Sun” political motives.

Minister Highlights ‘King Sun’ Plan

During a Thursday press conference, Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek accused President Karol Nawrocki of employing a political scheme he called the “King Sun” idea, claiming the president would favor judges who followed EU Court of Justice decisions.

Alleged Coercion of Judges

Żurek said the rejected nominations were linked to judges who had signed lists of objection in 2020‑2021, a practice he described as “paradoxically” unconstitutional and a violation of the constitution.

President’s Refusal Focused on Judge Categories

The Minister ruled that Nawrocki’s refusal targeted two groups: first, the 46 judges who were denied nominations; second, about four thousand judges who had signed a letter to the executive and legislative authorities demanding implementation of the European Court of Justice ruling on the Disciplinary Chamber.

EU Tribunal Ruling at Stake

Żurek warned that rejecting nominations for these judges would effectively undermine the EU Court’s decision and could lead to the liquidation of the Disciplinary Chamber, an anomaly for a country within the EU legal system.
