Polish prosecutor‑general Waldemar Żurek condemned former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro’s November 8 Facebook post, accusing him of using his illness in a political play against Donald Tusk.
Żurek Criticises Ziobro’s Claims
On Saturday, the former justice minister posted about an “oncology crisis” and “games of lawlessness” allegedly staged by Tusk.
Prosecutor‑general Żurek slammed the remarks as a “clumsy attempt to use his own disease as a shield” and called it a purely tactical move to deflect attention from comments about health policy.
Ziobro’s Claims About the Oncology Crisis
Ziobro argued that shortages in health financing force hospitals to postpone cancer surgeries, citing a 3.5 billion‑zloty National Health Fund allocation that he said was insufficient.
He accused Tusk of staging “lawless games” to silence the crisis, urging media to loudly criticize the government and aid patients immediately.
Sejm Grants Arrest Warrant for Ziobro
On Friday night, the Sejm’s Marshal forwarded a resolution allowing the prosecutor‑general to bring Zbigniew Ziobro to court, arrest him, and issue a provisional detention.
The prosecutor‑general charged him with 26 offences, including abuse of power and forming a criminal group.
