Žurek Threatens ICE Intervention Over Ziobro’s US Entry Documents

Waldemar Žurek announced on Thursday that he will petition US immigration authorities to investigate the legality of the documents used by Zbigniew Ziobro to enter the United States.

Potential ICE Intervention

On May 28, Waldemar Žurek stated in an interview with TVN24+ that if it is discovered that the Hungarian documents used by Zbigniew Ziobro to enter the United States were issued unlawfully, he will submit a formal request to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The prosecutor general emphasized his desire for the invalidation of the PiS MP’s travel documents, which he claims were issued for political and extra-legal reasons. Žurek intends to consult with Hungarian ministers and subsequently ask the US agency if any special provision, dubbed “lex Ziobro,” exists to grant the former minister unique treatment.

Extradition Status and Legal Allegations

Zbigniew Ziobro is currently a suspect in an investigation regarding irregularities within the Justice Fund. The National Prosecutor’s Office alleges he led an organized criminal group and abused his official position to commit 26 distinct offenses, including directing subordinates to break the law and facilitating the granting of funds to unauthorized entities.

The National Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Ziobro left Europe on May 9, traveling from Milan to the US using a foreign media member visa. An extradition request is prepared, following a February court decision to order his arrest and the subsequent issuance of an arrest warrant and a European Arrest Warrant.
