ZUS to Use AI in Disability Assessments by 2026

Poland’s ZUS social insurance institution will implement AI by 2026 to assist, not replace, doctors in disability rulings.

AI Implementation in ZUS

ZUS is actively developing and implementing artificial intelligence solutions. The technology is used to streamline customer service, optimize administrative processes, and support employees in daily tasks, aiming to boost efficiency, shorten processing times, and improve public service quality.

ZUS emphasizes that AI tools are solely for aiding human decision-making, not for automated decisions, and are deployed through a comprehensive risk management approach.

Document Analysis System

ZUS is developing a system for preliminary analysis of documentation for its assessing doctors. The AI will chronologically organize, group, identify medical facts, and highlight key elements within case files, enabling quick information retrieval across all documents.

This solution is designed to assist ZUS doctors in analyzing medical documentation during the disability assessment process.

Human Oversight

Despite concerns about “algorithmic judgments,” ZUS clarifies that artificial intelligence will support human doctors, not replace them in the decision-making process for disability rulings.
