Accused of Attempted Murder After Knife Attack

Police in Bydgoszcz reported that the 21‑year‑old, who allegedly attacked a 14‑year‑old boy with a knife on Thursday, 20 November, was charged with attempted murder. On the request of police and prosecutors, the court sentenced the suspect to three months’ pre‑trial detention. He is a resident of Bydgoszcz County. The 21‑year‑old faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Attack in Bydgoszcz Shopping Centre

On the afternoon of Thursday, 20 November, the duty officer at the Bydgoszcz command received a report of a knife assault in one of the shops of the Jagiellońska shopping centre in Bydgoszcz. Police were dispatched. Witnesses – shop staff and security – reported that the victim was in a fitting room. He turned out to be a 14‑year‑old boy. The teenager, suffering injuries, was taken to hospital. Security staff in the shop seized the 21‑year‑old and handed him over to the police. The suspect was taken to the city police station in the Śródmieście district and then to the police detention cell. He was sober.

Statements from the 21‑Year‑Old

Press spokeswoman for the Bydgoszcz prosecutor’s office, Agnieszka Adamska‑Okońska, stated that the suspect claims he does not recall the moment of the attack. ‘He said he awoke after the incident,’ she said. She explained to Radio ZET that he faces a life sentence, the same penalty as for murder. She added that prosecutors would interview witnesses. ‘There was someone who saw part of the incident,’ she conveyed.
