Polish diabetics may receive a monthly 215.84 Zł caregiving allowance in 2026 if they meet specific functional incapacity requirements.
Who Can Receive the Caregiving Allowance in 2026?
Persons with diabetes may receive a caregiving allowance in 2026. Although it is not exclusively for diabetics, it may be granted to individuals suffering from this condition under specific circumstances, regardless of income.
The allowance is granted based on the Family Benefits Act. Its purpose is to partially cover expenses related to providing care or assistance to persons unable to function independently.
Diabetes and Disability Certification
Diabetes alone does not automatically grant the right to a caregiving allowance. The decisive factor is “inability to live independently,” meaning the actual impact of the disease and its complications on daily life.
Obtaining a disability certificate is crucial, which enables filing an application. This involves submitting complete medical documentation, including medical certificates, test results, and an endocrinologist’s opinion if available.
How to Obtain the Benefit: Step-by-Step Procedure
The first step is to obtain a disability certificate by applying to the relevant County Team for Determining Disability, attaching full medical documentation. This is followed by a meeting with a commission, which will issue a decision.
If a negative decision is received, an appeal can be made to the Provincial Team for Determining Disability within 14 days. An appeal against the Provincial Team’s decision can be filed with the Labor and Social Insurance Court within 30 days.
After obtaining the certificate, apply at the Municipal or Social Assistance Center. Required documents include the certificate, application form, proof of address, and bank account details.
When Will the Commission Grant the Allowance? Diabetic Complications
The allowance depends on health status and the ability to live independently. For type 1 diabetes, complications like severe hypoglycemia, diabetic foot requiring treatment, or neuropathy may support the claim.
For type 2 diabetes, the allowance is granted only with severe complications such as limb amputations or vision loss. Each case is assessed individually.
Exceptions: Having a Certificate Does Not Guarantee Payment
Having a disability certificate does not automatically ensure the allowance. Exceptions include if the person is cared for by another individual receiving an allowance or resides in a care facility financed by public funds.
Allowance Amount and Future Indexation
The caregiving allowance has been 215.84 Zł monthly since November 1, 2019, without indexation. There is a possibility of change in 2027.
