A 2-year-old was found wandering a street in Iława, drinking water from puddles, while a 52-year-old man with 1.4 per mille alcohol level supervised three children.
Incident details
A 2-year-old child was wandering the streets of Iława, drinking water from puddles, on Saturday, September 20. Police received a report at around 6 PM about a toddler, approximately three years old, walking alone and drinking from a puddle. Officers and a medical rescue team arrived immediately. Fortunately, the child did not require medical attention. The child’s mother also appeared on the scene, stating that her partner had taken the three children to a playground. “After some time, he informed her that their 2-year-old son had left the playground. The woman immediately went to look for the child and found him at the intervention site,” police stated.
Drunk caregiver
The 52-year-old man was caring for three children aged 2 to 7 while having 1.4 per mille of alcohol in his blood. Police determined that the man had been drinking alcohol at the playground while supervising the children. “Additionally, during the intervention, he used vulgar language,” police said. Authorities described his behavior as “extremely irresponsible.” Documentation of the incident was sent to a family court.
Legal consequences
Police reminded that anyone with a legal obligation to supervise a minor is “required to provide care in a manner that does not pose a risk of life loss or severe harm to health.” According to Article 160, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code: “Whoever exposes a person to immediate danger of death or severe bodily harm is subject to imprisonment for up to three years.” Paragraph 2 states that “if the perpetrator has a duty of care for the person exposed to danger, they are subject to imprisonment from three months to five years.”
