Major rail disruptions are impacting travel in Poland just before the holidays, with one train experiencing a delay exceeding seven hours near Łęczyca.
Disruption on Kutno-Łódź Line
A failure occurred on the single-track section between Witonia and Łęczyca, a railway line connecting Kutno and Łódź. A track maintenance train with a boom lift is working to repair the overhead contact line, causing a suspension of train traffic on this section.
Trains on the Łódź railway are being replaced by buses, and the duration of the repairs is currently unknown, according to Karol Jakubowski, a spokesperson for PKP PLK.
Domino Effect of Delays
Railway networks operate as interconnected systems, meaning a delay to one train will cause delays to others, similar to a domino effect. Passengers can monitor updates on the Passenger Portal.
Severe Delays Reported
The train with the largest delay, exceeding seven hours, is the one traveling from Świnoujście to Zakopane. The train came to a stop in a location preventing evacuation, forcing passengers to wait onboard for the fault to be resolved.
As of 10:25 AM, the Świnoujście-Zakopane train had a delay of 478 minutes. A train traveling in the opposite direction also experienced a significant delay of 260 minutes.
Kutno Hub Affected
At the Kutno station, a key railway hub on the Warsaw-Poznań and Łódź-Toruń routes, train delays ranged from a few to several dozen minutes after 10:00 AM.
Additional Disruptions Across Poland
Problems are not limited to the Łódź region. A train from Poznań Główny to Ustka was delayed by 2.5 hours at 6:00 AM, and a TLK Ustronie train from Kołobrzeg to Kraków was delayed by one hour.
These issues stem from problems on the section between Jezierzyce Słupskie and Sławno stations, where replacement transport is in operation.
