A court in Ostrołęka sentenced Albert G. to 15 years in prison for attempting to murder three students in Kadzidło.
Conviction and Sentencing
The District Court in Ostrołęka sentenced 20-year-old Albert G. to 15 years in prison for attempting to murder three students at a vocational school in Kadzidło and causing serious bodily harm. The verdict is not yet final, and the prosecution notes that experts found the defendant had personality disorders.
The court found Albert G. guilty of attacking Szymon G., Anastazja K., and Marcin L., imposing a 15-year prison sentence and ordering compensation for the victims. Prosecutor Elżbieta Edyta Łukasiewicz stated, “The verdict is not final; parties have the right to appeal to the Appellate Court in Białystok.”
Details of the Attack
The incident occurred on November 29, 2023, during a psychology session for three classes. Investigations revealed that the defendant had planned the attack for at least two weeks, intending to kill at least eight students and then commit suicide. He brought four knives, a black mask, and caffeine tablets to school. After a few minutes, he left the classroom to put on the mask and prepare three knives, leaving the fourth in his backpack.
Around 12:00 PM, he stormed into the classroom and attacked: Szymon G. was stabbed near the neck, Anastazja K. received two stab wounds to the chest. Panic erupted as students fled. As Marcin L. moved away, the attacker stabbed him in the back. After the attack, the perpetrator fled the school, discarded the mask at the gate, and ran toward the forest, where he attempted to slit his own throat and wrists. He was found by police, arrested, and taken to medical aid.
Defendant’s Motives and Mental State
Albert G. partially admitted to the charges, claiming he was bullied by peers. A six-week forensic psychiatric observation was conducted. Prosecutor Łukasiewicz stated, “Experts did not find mental illness or intellectual disability but identified personality disorders. They concluded he was aware of his actions during the attack.” The defendant was held in pretrial detention throughout the proceedings.
Appeal Process
The District Court’s verdict is not final. Either party may appeal to the Appellate Court in Białystok. The prosecution will provide updates after the verdict becomes final or after appeals are resolved.
