Moldovan Election Results: EU Leaders Praise Victory Over Russian Influence

Pro-European parties secure majority in Moldovan parliament amid Russian interference allegations.

EU Leaders Celebrate Moldovan Democracy

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk hailed Moldovan voters for their “courage” in resisting Russian pressure, calling their victory a “lesson for us all.”

European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen both emphasized the EU’s support, with von der Leyen stating, “Our doors are open. We will accompany you every step of the way.”

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas condemned Russia’s disinformation campaigns and vote-buying efforts, reaffirming Moldova’s path to EU membership.

Pro-European Party Secures Parliamentary Majority

President Maia Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) won over 50% of the vote, securing 55 out of 101 parliamentary seats.

The pro-Russian electoral bloc came in second with 24%, while three smaller populist parties also entered parliament with less than 8% each.

Despite Russian funding aimed at destabilizing the election, Moldova remains on track for EU accession talks by 2028.
