A 35‑year‑old Ukrainian man in Łódź confessed to killing an 88‑year‑old Polish woman and her 62‑year‑old Ukrainian caregiver, and prosecutors say he also eliminated a witness who could confirm the crime.
Confession and Evidence
The suspect admitted to both murders and provided a statement to the Łódź District Prosecutor’s Office. Autopsy confirmed that the 88‑year‑old Polish woman was suffocated, while the 62‑year‑old Ukrainian caregiver suffered twelve knife wounds.
The younger victim, a Ukrainian woman, was a former acquaintance of the suspect.
Witness Elimination Detail
Prosecutor Paweł Jasiak reports that the suspect “eliminated a witness”—the older woman—who was expected to see him enter the apartment.
The motive behind the second murder remains unclear, according to the prosecutor.
Prosecutorial Action
The prosecutor will file a request to have the suspect arrested pending trial.
Fire Incident Context
Earlier Sunday afternoon, a fire broke out in a residential block on Teofilów Street in Łódź. Two women’s bodies were found at the scene.
The prosecution has stated that the fire was not the direct cause of their deaths; the victim’s injuries were inflicted by a sharp instrument.
