On Thursday, October 2, over 800 students and teachers left Piaseczno Primary School No. 5 near Warsaw after a report of a strong, biting odor; no injuries were reported.
Evacuation of Piaseczno School
More than 800 pupils and staff were evacuated from Primary School No. 5 in Piaseczno, Masovian Voivodeship, on Thursday, 2 October. The County Fire Department’s press officer informed Gazeta.pl that a request for assistance was received at 10:50 a.m. Firefighters were dispatched in six squads.
Firefighter Corporal Łukasz Darmofalski said the school’s administration had initiated the evacuation and that a total of 861 people, including children and employees, fled the building.
Strong, Biting Odor
Two teachers reported a vague feeling of discomfort. The press officer said that a strong, biting and irritating odor was detected in one corridor. Firefighters checked the communication lines and classrooms but found no hazardous substances.
While evacuating, staff opened windows to ventilate the rooms and corridors. The fire department did not detect any dangerous material, though the school’s report and students’ complaints indicated the presence of an irritant. According to Darmofalski, the administration acted correctly.
No Injuries Reported
Three ambulances responded to the scene, treating 32 people who complained of ill‑being. No one was taken to hospital; everyone was cleared after treatment and returned to classes about 40 minutes after the evacuation.
